Halycine, the moniker for the solo project of singer/guitarist Chloe Raynes, is a fresh new voice in indie rock. Her debut EP, In The Salt, is a collection of 5 songs that she wrote and produced, and 3 videos that she directed. It will be out summer 2016.

Chloe has been developing her musical talents since she was 10. After hearing Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the first time, she decided that she had no choice but to pick up the guitar and begin shredding. Her life was forever changed, and she's been playing and writing songs ever since.

Chloe studied music composition at the arctic campus of Bates College in Maine. She managed to get through the long winters with a soundtrack of Liz Phair, Sleater-Kinney, and Sublime. She moved to NYC shortly after graduation, absorbing the sights and sounds that would eventually shape her musical sensibilities. She co-fronted NYC’s rock outfit Blue & Gold before embarking on the new project that would become Halycine. Other musical influences include Dum Dum Girls, St. Vincent, and Jenny Lewis.

In The Salt is a luscious blend of reverberating guitars and spacious vocals. It’s a sonically imaginative and and lyrically vivid collection of deeply affecting songs. The EP was tracked and mixed at The End in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with GG Gonzalez on drums and Derek Cabrera on bass.

Circles

Counting signs
Rapture all the time
And I don't mind
But it's strange and so unkind

That the sky will close
With our bodies bare
Losing hope
That was never there

Ooh my blood is mourning
Leaving one more behind
Dreams die, then they haunt you
Live inside of your bones

In the cards
Future is defined
And I don't mind
But it's strange and so unkind

That the stars will all
Explode so soon
And I am left alone
In this room

Ooh my, age defying
Leaving this world behind
Hope dies, then it haunts you
For the rest of your life

Hold on tight for your life
Hold on, hold on
Drifting with the tide
Go out, go out

Ooh my blood is mourning
Leaving one more behind
Ooh boy, you better love me
You better love me till the end

Elixir

Time-elusive point of view
You'll guide me through
This painful youth
Left out in the cold
We're growing old
What will we do?

High when I'm with you
Are you losing your way too?
Bear the weight of time that's lost and
With our hearts stand still
High when I'm with you
Just my point of view
Bear the weight of New Year's Eve but
Every breath is new

Still, we'll never grow
You're on your own
You're here with me
Still, it's seeping in
Bleeding out
Holding on

High when I'm with you
Are you losing your way too?
Bear the weight of time that's lost and
With our hearts stand still
High when I'm with you
Just my point of view
Bear the weight of New Year's Eve but
Every breath is new

Reflections in the dark
A love like little sparks
I'm trying not to breathe
To have you close to me

One More Try

Hoping for a return
Of everything I ever learned
Green light will quiver and glow
Luring me with love that I distantly know

One more try, then I will go
For my sake, I am alone
One more try, then I will rest
Tell myself I did my best

Waiting for permission
That I will certainly never get
My light will flicker and fade
Nothing left to warm or illuminate

One more try, then I will go
For my sake, I am alone
One more try, then I will rest
Tell myself I did my best

Fall asleep

One more try, then I will go
For my sake, I am alone
One more try, then I will rest
Tell myself I did my best

Woman, You Better run

Woman wants to run
Wait till the day is done
The city goes to sleep tonight and
She's already gone

Woman, you better run
Woman, you better run
Before they catch you making plans
Before they catch you in the sand

I do not
I do not think it's fair, fair
I do not
I do not think it's fair, fair

You knew she was going to run
Find her way back where she came from
Stay out of her way
Or she'll hit you like a hurricane

Woman, you better run
Woman, you better run
Before they catch you making plans
Before they catch you in the sand

I do not
I do not think it's fair, fair
I do not
I do not think it's fair, fair

It's not fair
It's not fair
It's not fair
It's not fair

Silver moon

From the last silver moon you were not the same
And your half-dollar heart
Flies at full mast, just the same
It's been a long road, a long road for you

The seasons don't change where you are
Stay the same
But I keep your winter buried in my heart
Just the same
It's been a long road, a long road for you

I wish you well

When at last, you are free
And it's not cause of me
Silver moon, not my own
Fragile heart made of stone
It's been a long road, a long road for you

I wish you well

My silver moon
